J&K was slowly dying. J&K was like a hunted wilder beast around which a pride of lions feasts. Counter Insurgency Industry was feasting on J&K.

Brief

Why is it that no one has written about the “Counter Insurgency Industry” of Kashmir? Journalists, Generals, Bureaucrats, Director Generals, Media, Politicians, Governors, Separatists, Terrorists or the Public – none has brought this up. Why? Public would pay with life if they squeaked. Rest? Its simple, each was drinking water from the common water hole called “Insurgency”. The Counter Insurgency Industry was booming business with very high ROI’s.

It’s like a red light area syndrome. Everyone is there, everybody knows its wrong but none wants it to close. Very harsh words but then was truth ever sweet?

With one stroke, on 05 Aug 2019, the abrogation announcement changed the tone and tenor of experts. The veterans, advisors, panellists and anchors who would normally scream on TV were silent. Why did the PM do it without any public discussion? Simple, ‘TRUST DEFICIENCY”. Five years in power made it clear to PM that he cannot trust anyone. The valley would burn when rumours spread. Central Police started moving in from July last week. Everyone connected it with ‘some’ announcement PM would make from Red Fort on 15 Aug 2019. Everybody was relaxing. From PMO to terrorists, all were with their guards down.

The Counter Insurgency Industry was sleeping too.

Central Government could have abrogated the Article 370 any time in the past. It never did. Why? The industry was hand in glove with Central Government and the law makers. Continuing with status quo paid handsome results. Why upset the apple cart? The ‘EXPERTS” played a vital role in continuing with insurgency. Most of these experts are from the Army. They served in the valley and then retired to become ‘experts’ justifying and supporting their own actions. The experts served in valley as Brigade Commanders, Divisional Commanders and Corps Commanders. They knew inside out of the insurgency from within. Post retirement their ‘valley experience’ was leverages to grab plum assignments like Governorship or they sneaked their way into TVs.

2014 to 2019 all these experts were singing one tune on TV, screaming on top of voices fighting with Pakistani paid counterparts. All went quiet on 05 Aug 2019.

Did you ever hear even one panellist or an expert on ways to resolve Kashmir issue? From soft options to hard and from routine to radical? Ever heard anyone suggesting abrogation of Article 370?

Where are the COASs? Are we to believe that the abrogation was such an out-of-universe idea that it did not strike even one chief in thirty years? The Army Commanders of Northern Command are as much to blame as anyone. The complete machinery was being oiled nicely ad not necessarily with money. Awards, Courses, Promotions, ACRs etc kept the Army well oiled.

Not every disease is treated by conventional medicine. Keeping leadership under house arrest, no internet, no prepaid mobile service, complete curfew for a while and such strict measures were required. Holding on in summers of 2019 was very important and the onset of winters and snowfall in few months would trap everyone.

The best part is the very same machinery that exploited Kashmir for thirty years was now implementing and controlling fallout of Abrogation of Article 370!!!

The valley will be integrated with India completely in 2020.
