SUN TZU WITH ME – Post 3 : REAL PEACE CANNOT BE PURCHASED

When Ruler-Administrator-Military exploits the dead soldiers, the ruler hides truth from countrymen, the administrator vanishes in crisis and the military leadership bends from waist to rulers – remember they all believe in “Purchasing Real Peace”.

Galwan was an eye opener. Daulat Beg Odli, Depsang, Hot Springs, Doklam, Subansiri and many more. It’s been fifty years and we still behave like newbies.

If Indian Constitution matters to you, this lesson is very important. We have cheated our own constitution from 58 years.

Every government and every party have always tried to ‘purchase peace’ with China. 58 years of fooling. They need to understand why peace cannot be ‘purchased’.

Learn From China

China, 10^th AD onwards always tried to buy peace with Tartars. Tartars, the horseback tribes, attacked China at will. China lost everything. China was ‘purchasing’ peace. What Tartars did to China then is what China is doing to India today. Tartars brought China to knees. Tartars raided and captured Chinese towns. China gave them annual allowance and money and did everything to please Tartars to purchase peace. China has been vulnerable since thousands of years.

The Tartars gave up few captured cities and promised no more raids in Chinese territory in return for Chinese payment to Tartars by way of silk and money. Tartars would again raid and extract more from China. What China was buying, Tartars were never selling that is ‘peace’. Later Tartars captured and conquered China and founded the Manchu dynasty. Real peace cannot be obtained by purchase.

Wither The Constitution?

Armed Forces have only one duty, i.e. ‘Protect Constitution’. Armed Forces are withering constitution. How is it that the armed forces have buckled in front of politicians who have decades on decades withered constitution? Instead of protecting constitution the Army Chiefs have protected their personal ambitions. Nation must demand explanation from every Chief of Army, Air Force and Naval Staff since 1963 on why did they permit ‘Purchase of Peace’ by Prime Ministers? China was, is, and will remain a nation of the weak. Tartars defeated them for centuries. China took beating for centuries till it gave up and we capitulated numerous times in a 58-year period!

How & Why did India Cease to Resist?

Political leadership is responsible for this. If military suffered, the blood is on the hands of lawmakers. Imports are not banned and Chinese stuff floods streets. China has free access to India. It earns billions even after humiliating our PM. Bank of China getting license, Metro contracts to China feature in news, numerous inconsequential apps are banned but complete silence is maintained hard hitting measures relating to Business, Politics, Defence,.

• What stops supporting Taiwan? We are scared even to wish then or acknowledge their wishes? The Foreign Office says that it will be premature? Do we require that man in Foreign Office? He should have been sacked.
• What stops de-recognizing Tibet?
• What stops supporting Hongkong?
• What stops getting close to 100% nations connected to OBOR?
• What about UN? Why not take China headlong there?
• What stops pushing #ChineseVirus instead of Covid19?
• What stops from giving 100% marching orders to any business entity connected to China?

Do you realize none of above falls in the domain of military? The Political Class-Ruler-Lawmaker is scared. They do nothing. They hide behind Army by pushing Army for talks without authority. By trying not to annoy China, PMs keep on trying to purchase peace. 58 years of purchasing peace. 58 years of deceit by China!          

You will understand talking ‘sense’ has no place in India. Also, hear the shallow TV anchors and specialists. The so-called ‘experts’ on TV are no experts but are only there to push political agendas. They would sound completely fake to you now.

Lesson

Let us now see how beautifully a pattern emerges that answers why we take beating at China border. Why there is no strategic vision? How plunder and loot by Political Executive compromises security? Try to apply these lessons keeping Galwan, Depsang, DBO, Nepal, Sikkim, and Arunachal in mind. I am helping you to become your own strategist.

Lesson 1- Military career officers do not reach highest levels. Civil Administrators who ‘learn’ military tactics late in service occupy highest positions & direct operations bringing disaster.

Lesson 2- Our nation lacks the preparedness for war. We take our enemies lightly.

Lesson 3- The highest positions are occupied for plunder and loot. Army has no say. Situation at whole China border since last 58 years shows how we have failed in following a 2500-year old text of Sun Tzu.

Lesson 4- India should not try to purchase peace by giving up claims or adopting soft stands. Don’t capitulate in only 58 years to an enemy who took thousands of years to match its attackers.

The 4 lessons above were applicable 2500 years ago, in 1947, in 1962 and in 2020. Where exactly is the problem?

These are not some hindsight questions. Even today we have nothing. And, if we start today, we will be definitely better-off in the future. We have never had any strategic vision & will never have it either, if lessons are not taken seriously. Blood of each and every soldier lost after 1963 on China front is on the hands of our PMs. Their politics was bigger than the Constitution of India. It’s not about how brilliant Mr Modi is or how bad Mr Nehru was. It’s about India. It’s about our Constitution. None are above it. They ALL messed it up.

SunTzu explained all of these centuries ago. We simply have to understand and implement.  But, we will not. WHY? Read the lessons again and you will know.

• Who was responsible in India to look the after China border in 1947? China came in existence in 1949. We started with a two-year lead over China. Who should have had the upper hand?
• What measures did political leadership take in the 1949-1962 period to handle China?
• What changes did they bring from 1963 to 2020 in the policy to handle China?
• What have our ‘visionaries’, ‘strategists’, ‘thinkers’, ‘institutions’ and ‘leaders’ achieved from 1946 to now?
• Where is the comprehensive strategy to handle China? From two-year lead, we are now fifty-years behind. Who should be held responsible?
• The structure of Indian security establishment has been like: rank and file, officers, and bureaucracy and lawmakers on top aiming for ‘plunder and loot’, then, and now. Who should be blamed for the current mess?
• We have neither strong defence nor attacking forces to counter China. Who answers for period 1949-2020?
• We have lawmakers & administrators heading Armed Forces at the highest level. It brings disaster. What have PMs done to rectify it?
• In 1962, we tried to purchase peace by believing in ‘Hindi Cheeni Bhai-Bhai’. We tried to purchase peace on Sabarmati riverfront in 2014 and in Mamallapuram just 8 months ago. What difference did it make? Every time, PMs were involved deeply.
• Why have, till date, chiefs of all three services not been hauled out of retirement & questioned on their ‘strategic vision’?
• Chiefs are given Arunachal Governorship post-retirement. How does it help?
• Is PM Modi justified in criticizing former PM Nehru?

I believe that I have given you more clarity about the macro and micro picture of India-China-Galwan issue. What is happening and what should have happened in India in the last 58 years. Sun Tzu’s philosophy is not about ‘war’, it is about ‘mindset. Read the first paragraph, it says “…how does it affect us, governance, business and life?” It’s much more than Governance, Business and Life. It’s about the mind, the way we think, and the ability to switch from macro to micro issue. Military and Nation are attractive subjects.
